Everything You Need To Know

Have you been considering hair extensions but not sure whether to take the plunge? Were here to help you understand the different types of extensions and reasons to wear them.
There are so many different styles of extensions and terms, that it can get overwhelming if you are new to the world of hair extensions. We are breaking down the different types of extensions to help clear up some confusion. Everyone knows they’re great for length and volume, but did you ever consider these different ways extensions could make your #hairgoles a reality.

If I had a pound for every cline that has sat in my chair saying how their hair won’t grow past a certain point! From my own experience, I have that same story – my hair is healthy, I do everything I can to make sure my hair is tip top but it simply won’t grow past a certain length – extensions are the answer. Honestly, they’ve changed the way I feel about my hair I would never be without.

Have you been wanting to change your colour for a while but don’t want to colour your natural hair? Hair extensions come in all colours from beautiful blonds, rich reds, dreamy brunette, even ombre, root stretch. So if you’re looking to add some depth and tone to you natural hair you can change it up by adding pieces to make everyone envious without changing your natural hair colour.

This is my favourite way to add extensions to add fullness achieving glorious locks to clients that need that extra oomph. The best thing about adding volume is you don’t need a lot of hair extensions added, from around 50-75 bonds to achieve that bouncy blow-dry.

We’ve all been there, I don’t need to go into detail here -BUT adding extensions to cover up a bad haircut is a great way to fix the problem whilst growing out the evidence of that tragic mistake.

Hair extensions can instantly make any style more beautiful and interesting with length, volume, pop of colour and can make any hair up more intricate and voluminous. Extensions will hold onto those curls longer if you’re looking to have your hair down for your wedding.

All of our extension methods are non-damaging, your hair condition will always be a top priority to us at the strand! We will only ever do methods to best suit your hair type. We make sure your hair is in tip-top condition at your maintenance appointments.

Now let’s talk about the methods. At the strand, we have different methods to best suit your hair type and hair needs

Suited for all hair types, These are applied by threading a tiny ring onto small sections of the natural hair with a small silicone-lined bead. Then, a special tool is used to secure the bead to the hair and tightened to hold it in place. Although this method does not use heat or glue, if not installed correctly extensions can be damaging on the hair. The bead may be tightened too much, causing pressure and pulling at the roots, and if not removed properly, the hair can be pulled out. This method takes approximately 2 – 4 hours to apply.

You can wash them the same way you would your natural hair and use the same styling products. Nano rings hair extensions need re-positioning every 6 – 8 weeks as the natural hair grows and the Nanos move away from the scalp.

Tape hair extensions are exactly what they sound like. The extensions are pre-taped The strip is peeled off and two wefts are sandwiched between your natural hair. They lay flush against the scalp, so fantastic for fine hair. you would need to have them removed and then reinstalled every 6 – 8 week if maintained well. This process usually takes approximately 40 minutes – 1 hour to apply and if the extensions are in good condition, they can be re-used.

With tape-in extensions, you have to be very careful when using conditioners or hair products because this can cause the tape to come loose or slip off. This is a very common issue with tape-ins, where the hair simply slides off. Because of this, you will need to purchase a sulphate free extension shampoo and conditioner and styling products that are less harsh and not as oily to ensure the tape continues to stick to your hair. You can style them any way you want because they are made with human hair, but you need to watch out for the roots where the tape is.

Human hair extensions are exactly what they sound like. They are made out of real, human hair from top to bottom, collected from a donor. Remy’s hair means all the cuticles (the outer layer of the hair) are intact, running in the same direction at the time of collection. This allows for no tangling and ensures that the extensions remain smooth and silky throughout their lifetime.
They come in all colours also allowing us to custom blend your colour match. We have two options to chose from. Our luxury hair lasting from 6 months and our premium lasting from 12 months.
